Even your voice grows older with time...

As we age, like every other part of the body, there are changes in our voices.  The vocal cords tend to thin out, and our voices become "creaky" or "raspy." Fortunately, like the rest of the body, the vocal cords can stay stronger and "younger" when you use optimal, healthy voice techniques.  To learn more about healthy voice techniques, click here.
For some people, whose vocal cords are extremely thinned, vocal fold injection, as described in this video, can help restore the voice.  Then, voice therapy can help maintain your new voice longer between injections.

Aphasia is a language impairment that affects a person's ability to speak, understand, read and/or write language.  Stroke is the most common cause of aphasia, but it may also be caused by traumatic brain injury (TBI) or other brain damage.  In honor of Aphasia Awareness Month, I am posting links to a number of resources available to people with aphasia and their loved ones:

Watch this video for an overview of aphasia from many perspectives. It was created by students at the University of Massachusetts.

Aphasia Camp NW is a wonderful opportunity for people with aphasia and their care partners to participate in outdoor activities and share their experiences with others living with aphasia.  Click here to learn more.
